SONshine at the Shore!
A Hurting
Word...
A tongue-twister from a sun-burner, for as I write this, there's patches of sun-burned skin to prove I was THERE--at the shore, at my beloved ocean, drinking in the sun, the sand, the surf and the sea I whined about a couple of weeks ago! The Lord unexpectedly blessed me with a short trip to Pennsylvania to visit family and we headed straight for the New Jersey shore!
Now sun-burning is not ALL I did. I found time for shopping and eating too--and all the fun things you do with family you don't get to see very often. Had a great time--and now I'm back to laundry, cleaning up the house where "the three bears" lived while I was gone, catching up on a mountain of mail and work--it's baaack to the real world!
You must know me well enough by now to know there'd be a devotional or two somewhere in all of the sunshine--and there is. So come along to the Well with me (put on LOTS of suntan lotion first!), and let's explore the seashore--for there's lessons there for us all!
A Helping Word...or
Two!
The Sandy Shore!
Sand is wonderful--when its cool, glistening softness squishes between your toes; where kids build sand castles, search for sea shells, and bury each other in mounds of more sand; where it's just "THE" place to be on whatever shoreline coast where you live! But sometimes it gets HOT...sometimes it gets in your eyes...sometimes it gets mixed up with the suntan oil you've just put on your face...and sometimes it grits and grinds everywhere it's not supposed to grit and grind--and it's not fun!
Isn't life like that? Little bits of irritation that clog up the wheels of our fast-paced living, our people-blended families and our stress-driven work worlds. That's the time to look up for I know a SON in whose face we can look directly; we can bathe in His love; we can know His peace.....for HIS Sonshine still shines, His presence is STILL there, even on the hot sands of our lives. He's there watching, loving, helping...and we're going to make it--for HE's all we really need--even in the sand!
The Rocky Shore!
Rocks are wonderful--when you can climb on them, sit on them, take pictures by them, and just enjoy the scenic picture they provide as a backdrop to the surf rolling in from the sea. But sometimes you can cut your feet on the sharp edges...sometimes you can slip and fall on their wet surfaces...sometimes they hurt--and sometimes they're not fun!
Isn't life like that? Life on the rocks--with jagged edges and slippery passageways, rocks that jut out to trip us and cut us...not to mention the rocks people can throw at us when we least expect it. Rocks can hurt...but that's the time to look up into the SONshine, to know that even on the rocky shores of life, there's a SON watching, loving, helping...and we're going to make it...for HE'S all we really need--even on the rocks!
The Windy Shore!
Wind is cool! You sit on a beach towel or a beach chair and don't even notice the BURN because the BREEZE cools it off. It refreshes and soothes; it takes away the discomfort of a hot day, and feels so good! But sometimes it can chill you to the bone...ever walk the boardwalk at night, with that cool breeze coming in from the ocean and freezing you to death? You run to the nearest shop (of which there are plenty) to buy a sweatshirt on sale (of which there are plenty) and finally, you are warm enough to go find the pizza, the Philly cheese steaks and the fudge! Up to that moment, it's sure not fun!
Isn't life like that? The winds blow against our boat, sometimes almost breaking it in two. Winds can be cruel and harsh--in REAL life--and when they blow, you'd better know God...for when you do, the SONshine of His love will still be there, shining even when you can't see it, loving even when you can't feel it. There IS a SON and He's watching, loving, helping...and you're going to make it...for HE'S all you really need--even in the wind!
Sunshine at the shore is wonderful, and I experienced it. But far more, I experienced the SONshine of His love, as I stood along the sandy shore, wind blowing, waves splashing against the rocks and HIS love speaking "SONshine" to my soul! HE'S the SONshine who's always there--whether it's sand, rocks or wind--and HE will see you through. Believe it, and have a wonderful week, wherever on Planet Earth your "shore" may be!
