A Hurting
Word...
I remember Christmas-of-long-ago (you start showing your age when you recall stories of "long ago") when my younger sister and I, on Christmas Eve, would "beg" a little "mad money" from our soft-hearted daddy and take off walking. It was just a few blocks to the business district of our little town. Sometimes there would be snow, but always Christmas in the air, and we would walk, silly as can be, in the mood for Christmas--and deciding how to spend that little extra on some decorative trinkets. It's a fond memory now--Dad and Mom are both with the Lord; my sister and I live a thousand miles apart, each with our own families, but the memory always brings a smile!
Walking in the wintertime can be FUN if it's not too cold nor too far, the snow is gently drifting and you're in the mood for Christmas! But it's not always that picture-perfect. Come with me to the Well and let's walk through the wintertime of our real lives. We're privileged to walk with the King, so bundle up and come along for the walk of your life!
A Helping Word...or
Two!
Walk in His Word!
Jesus walked in the Word--He IS the Word, and He walks with you today. Remember the springtime of your walk with Him? It was glorious; His Word was delightful to your heart; you hungered for more and more. You memorized, you read, you listened--and you could never get enough. Walking in His Word was your daily warm-up for the cool spring days when love first bloomed and you knew He was there.
It's winter now--cold, dark, dreary days--and you need His Word more than ever. You need the assurance of His stedfast love--and it's there, in His Word. You need the warmth of His embrace--and it's there, in His Word. You need the assurance of His truth, and it's there, in His Word. He will never leave you nor forsake you, so if you're going through the winter season of your walk with the Lord, take heart. Know that the King of glory walks with you and beside you through the cold, dark, dreary days. He will lighten them and warm them with His Presence--if you'll just open His Word and let it sink deeply into your soul this day!
Walk in His Will!
Jesus walked in the Father's Will--and He's waiting for you to join Him today. Remember the springtime of your walk with Him? His Will was delightful to your heart--you chose to follow Him whatever the cost. You surrendered every part of your life, perhaps a little at a time, until it all belonged to Him, the KING of your life. Those were the fresh, young days of your walk with Him and memories roll back to recall the wonder of it all. To be in the center of the Father's Will was the best and the only place to be.
It's winter now--cold, dark, dreary days--and you need to be in His Will more than ever. You need to know His clear guidance when the blinding blizzards of life take your breath away and you lose your way. Well, HE knows the way; He's prepared it before you, and He will lead you in perfect paths of His choosing if you let Him. He's the same King in the winter as in the spring. He never changes. His love and plan for you never fails, unless you let it! Stay close to Him; let the warmth and wonder of His perfect Will flood your soul until the surrender is once again complete...and then you will know peace. He's your King and He's waiting to walk with you in the center of His Will today!
Walk in His World!
Jesus walked in His world and He touched lives everywhere He went. And so did you--in the springtime of your walk with Him. You loved to share what He had done for you; you could not be silent. You prayed for the lost; you loved them into the Kingdom. Those were the thrilling days of your walk with the King. To serve Him and be His ambassador was your highest goal and most worthy fulfilment.
It's winter now--cold, dark, dreary days--and you need to walk in His world now more than ever. But sin, vice, evil, darkness have dulled your senses. It's too cold out there--it's all YOU can do to keep warm yourself! Well, don't walk away now. He needs you to do battle on the front lines in this evil world. He's called you to be His witness, whatever the season--and witness you must--not out of duty, but from a loving, caring, compassionate heart which reaches out to those who need Him. And a whole world out there needs Him! Get back in step with the King and walk with Him into that world He loves so much with the Good News and Blessed Gospel of Jesus Christ! The King waits to walk with you--will you heed His call?
It's Christmas time and everyone is madly rushing through the malls and marketplaces of our cities to purchase gifts for family and friends. In the wild frenzy of it all, let's not forget one very special gift for Someone--a gift for the King! And what better gift would He want from you this Christmas than the gift of your heart--a heart that says, "Lord, I will walk with You through the winter times of my life. I will walk in Your Word, in Your Will and in Your Word." Now THAT is a birthday gift fit for a KING!
PS...And if you're ready to collapse in the sand along the wintry ocean of life, don't despair for He carries you. He will "never, never, never leave you nor never, never, never forsake you." You are His child and He walks with you or for you through every season of your life. Remember that--and have a great week!
"Lord, I've walked with You from the moment I first accepted You into my heart. But lately, I've been getting weary in the way, and I need to walk more closely with You again. In these winter seasons of my life, help me remember how much I need You--and how much You love me and want to walk with me. In Christ's Name, Amen.
