This week's devotional is a BUGGY one, for the bug has hit the Bohanon home bigtime! I cannot transmit it via a Web page, so you are safe. Come on in, bring a lot of TLC--and some chicken soup, and I'll be able to FLUently write this devo. Now you KNOW when I can still be sick and make puns like that, I'm on the mend! Antibiotics--and a call to Dr. Jesus sure help! We can be assured that Jesus Christ DOES heal our bodies, whether by His miraculous touch, or through the skillful hands and medicine of a physician!
This IS the flu season, and if you've not had it, cheer up--it may be just around the corner for you! The kids are passing it around at school, the congregations are shaking hands and passing it around at church, and it's travelin' through the families and workplaces in its usual, unpleasant way. We're all coughed under, stuffed up, sneezed out--and done in, unless we take it in good stride and humor, knowing "this too shall pass!"
Now we all know a "buggy body" is no fun, but there are things a lot worse than sick, run-down, worn-out bodies. Do a spiritual inventory and you'll find spiritual aches and pains which no pill will reach! So why not bring along your blanket, your juice, your chicken soup....and your BIBLE, 'cause Dr. Jesus is waiting at the well to help and heal us all!

A Bruised Spirit...Healed in the Presence of Dr. Jesus!
What do you do with a bruised spirit? Call an internist who specializes in fixing up internal organs? Won't work--this is an internal problem of an eternal spirit. Only Dr. Jesus can help! Our spirit, the seat of intimate relationship with a living God and His people, can get into big relational trouble. Bruises of resentment, jealousy, disagreement occur within the Body of Christ. Bruises of defeat, depression and discouragement bring painful sores from Satan. And they all hinder our relationship with our Living Lord. THAT's when we call on Dr. Jesus. He can lift your spirit, restore the intimacy, and renew a RIGHT spirit within you. He's the Great Physician, and in HIS presence we find divine oil to soothe and heal the bruises of life. Call on Dr. Jesus now--His office never closes; His services are full and free!
A Battered Mind...Healed by the Protection of Dr. Jesus!
What do you do with a battered mind? Call the abuse center and report it to the authorities? Now, thank God for abuse centers where battered women and kids find help and healing. But an abuse center will not help the mind battering of the enemy of our souls. You mean Satan batters and abuses us? You'd better believe it--He will beat you unmercifully with doubt, fear, guilt, self-accusation, low self-esteem--he's a specialist at what he does. But I know the Great Specialist, Dr. Jesus, whose Blood is able to protect and cover our minds from the onslaught of the enemy. Fill your mind with God's Word and claim His promises to defeat the devil. Rememer, "He will guard your minds and hearts through Christ Jesus." When Satan tries to enter your mind with unruly, ungodly, untrue thoughts, send Dr. Jesus, Heaven's Guard, to answer! Satan MUST flee at the presence of JESUS. Call on Him now, and be set free from the bondage of your mind in His mighty Name!
A Broken Heart--Made Whole in the Hands of Dr. Jesus!
What do you do with a broken heart? Call the best heart specialist in town, run X-rays, an electro-cardiogram, and a stress test to find out the problem? Schedule a bypass or a transplant? Won't work! For when the heart has been shattered, broken in pieces by people and by life situations, nothing on earth can mend it. That's when we call on Dr. Jesus, the Mender of Broken Hearts. He can pick up the pieces, put them together again, and make you a trophy of God's healing work in a human life. Life does bring hard times, broken times, shattered dreams and hopes. Love relationships fall apart, families break up, situations within churches and workplaces can hurt you--and no First Aid kit or Band-aid will do the job. Call on Dr. Jesus who brings healing to a troubled heart as no human can do. He's the real specialist and has the ability to take what is broken, mend it, and use it to help others. Surrender to His skillful care and see what He will do!
A Burdened Soul--Healed by the Cleansing Power of Dr. Jesus!
What do you do with a burdened soul? Take it to a weight loss center, go on a food fast, and see if the burden will lighten up? Now weight loss may be a good idea for a lot of us...guilty grin...however, no reduction of poundage is going to lighten the burden of sin you carry. Only God, through Jesus Christ, can lift the burden, bring forgiveness, and give peace. It takes HIs Power, His divine Blood, and our personal reception of the work on Calvary to bring the relief we need. You're not a Christian? You can be--ask Jesus right now to save you. Admit your sins, lay the heavy burden at the Cross, accept Him as your personal Savior and be set free from sin's heavy weight! You ARE a Christian--and you are carrying a burden of sin? Oh, not the heavy load of Adamic sin, but sins of unforgiveness, resentment, anger--sins which hurt the heart of your Lord. Well, we can ALL call on Dr. Jesus and He will lift whatever burden we carry. He has the power to remove the load, cast it in the deepest sea of His forgetfulness, never to be remembered again! Call on Dr. Jesus now--He's there, waiting at the Cross, to help you today!
You see, there really are a lot of problems worse than the FLU....but I have good news for you. What no doctor on earth can cure, Dr. Jesus in heaven can and will! He waits today for you to call on Him. No appointment is necessary. No fee involved. No waiting in line. No insurance papers to file. It's free--provision for all services was paid in full at the Cross of Calvary. He was broken that we might be made whole; He was bruised that we might be healed; He was wounded that we might be set free. Dr. Jesus, Heaven's Great Physician, has an open line and direct service--call on Him today!
