"You're My Hero!"
We remember too--the weary, worn, wonderful firefighters, policemen, Red Cross volunteers, ordinary citizens--all reaching out to aid in "the tragedy of a lifetime"--putting their own lives at risk--and sometimes losing them--to help in the biggest, most difficult rescue operation we've ever seen. We salute the untiring, unselfish love, compassion and dedication of professionals and volunteers--America and the world salutes them--they are our heroes!
But I know another--Someone greater than any of us could imagine--Someone I look up to, listen to and love with all my heart. This Hero of all heroes has loved me, rescued me, given His life for me--and sits at the Right Hand of the Father, praying for me. Jesus Christ is my Hero--He's my best friend, my confidante, my helper, my keeper, my King....and that's not all, for you see...
Whenever you look up to a hero figure, you watch what He does, you listen to what He says, you follow where He leads. You watch how He treats His friends, His enemies, and His God. And you learn how to live in this wicked old world--how to show love and compassion, how to forgive those who despitefully use you, how to have faith in God in the darkest hour, how to hold firm and stand tall in the face of evil.
My Hero has done it all--I am forever grateful. What would Jesus do if He were here in live, visible presence in our world today? He'd be there, in the middle of it all, loving, encouraging, comforting, and showing US how to respond. He'd show love and compassion to His friends and foes; fairness, forgiveness--and justice--to His enemies, and strong faith and trust in His God. I know--it's documented in His Word--He's demonstrated it for me--and countless millions more!
You're my Hero, Lord--I want to be like You. In the midst of a crisis unlike any in our lifetimes, help us all to look to You -- our example, our source of strength, our strong tower, our Lord and our God!
...and that's just a thought or two from my heart to yours!

An Encouraging Word for Times Like These
"Did you ever know you're my hero?" - Bette Midler's voice rang out across Yankee Stadium on Sunday, September 23--and a crowd of 20,000 grieving New Yorkers clapped and cried in response, remembering New York's greatest heroes of a hard, long day we'll never forget--September 11--and days still following.

A song and a prayer for His all-sufficient grace "Lord, in this time of uncertainty and crisis, we look to You, our heavenly Hero. You've lived in our world--You've experienced suffering, cruelty, hardship and pain; You faced enemies and persecutors of the truth--You stood firm and Your Word always won. Help us to pattern our lives--in thought and deed--after You, the Hero of our hearts. We love You, Jesus, and ask Your help, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
