'Shadow Government,' the latest phrase coined by creative writers Gellman and Schmidt of the Washington Post, woke up my creative brain this morning. It was a news show on National Public Radio--and a new security policy for the USA--but there's really NOTHING new under the sun. Shadows follow us all...they've been following us all our lives...so what's the big deal??

It IS a big deal for the USA following the 9-11 terrorist attack that shattered not only buildings but shook our very souls. President Bush has implemented a new security measure called COG (Continuity of Government), whereby 100 top, well-seasoned leaders have set up operations in a secure, hidden location outside of Washington, D.C. They'll be ready should another attack occur that could endanger our government and people. Smart move...but guess what, I know Someone who's been doing it all along. His Name is God and He doesn't need any emergency to begin a "shadow me/shelter me" program! It's already in progress--and doing well.

HE SHADOWS OUR MIND!

The God of the universe promises to "keep in perfect peace those whose minds are stayed on Him." Sometimes we forget--we open our minds to that "other" shadow and doubt, discouragement, defeat, despair creep in to rob us of that perfect peace. God wants to govern our minds and KEEP them in perfect peace, and He will--if we let Him!

HE SHADOWS OUR SOUL!

The God of the universe promises to keep us "under the shadow of the Almighty," a place of safety and security for our soul. The soul that houses our emotions, our will, our desires and dreams needs a manager, and we'd better give the controls to God--or the "other" shadow will, as sure as you are alive, creep in to encourage confusion, fear, anger and self-will. It will wipe our the God-given desire we may have to serve our Maker! God wants to govern our souls in safety, security and HIS good and perfect Will, and He will--if we let Him!

HE SHADOWS OUR BODY!

The God of the universe promises to give us a "perfect body" some day, and in the meantime, provides mini-miracles of His grace, every now and then, to show His power in the physical part of our being. Of course, the "other" shadow slips in--bringing disease, fear of disease, and torment--and he will rule, if we let Him. God wants to govern our bodies--and to help us be wise stewards of the intricate, complicated system that keeps us going, and He will--if we let Him!

HE SHADOWS OUR SPIRIT!

The God of the universe promises to renew and restore our spirit--and we need His Word daily to keep our spirits in tune with His own. The Spirit of God knows no depression, no faltering, no failure, no down-cast days, and that's His plan for us too. Now the "other" shadow has a plan--to discourage and depress, to bring your spirit down so low you can't pick yourself up. Don't let him! God wants to govern your spirit, and He will--if you let Him!

"Shadow Government?" You're not kidding! As born-again, Blood-bought Christians, we can walk in the shadow of the Almighty, we can work in the shadow of the Holy Spirit, and we can worship in the shadow of the Cross. A three-in-one governing God--who will never let us down. He will shadow us from the moment of birth to the moment when we see His glorious face. "My Shadow and I" will walk together all through life, for "shadowed and sheltered" is exactly the way I want to live...how about you!

...and that's just a little "food for thought" from my heart to yours!

"Lord, I'm tired of living in my own shadow; I'm tired of letting the "other" shadow lead--it's time for YOU to completely govern my mind, my soul, my body, and my spirit. Shadow me--ever shelter me--and I will be safe and whole, In Jesus' Name, Amen."
