Life...and the Backyard Picnic!
Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way
Where's the charcoal? The plasticware? The red-checkered tablecloth? And most importantly, WHERE'S THE FOOD? Hot dogs, hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob, baked beans, potato salad, watermelon, chocolate cake.....Did I catch your favorite picnic food? Sounds good and I know--you're all on your way over to my backyard right now--it's picnic time at Peggie's Place! Great--while you're here, you can help me weed the yard too--but that's another story for another day!
Before we start piling up the plastic plates--and the presumed calories--there's a few lessons we can learn from picnics. Guess what--they're like life! (1) Work hard! (Have you discovered that dealing with life--its problems and relationships, its inner struggles and temptations--is hard work?) (2) Watch out for the bugs! (Anybody around you that's bugging you? Better be well supplied with some "anti-bug-spray" from above--His love, patience and grace!) (3) Wait for the food (Ever have to wait for God's blessings to waft your way? You "smell" it coming, cookin' on the grill, but "Lord, the wait is endless!")
OK, let's be realistic! Some days life is NO picnic, and those are the days when we make our own, at "the table of the Lord," just "Jesus and me," feeding on His Word, finding strength and grace for the journey, fellowship in His presence and renewed faith to share with a hungry world around us--tomorrow! Those are the special, private dining times where we find His special love and grace to sustain and support us through the hard days of our lives.
Whatever your situation, He's there to help us--with the work, the bugs and yes, even the waiting! So let's fire up the grill, set the table, bring on the food--don't forget the bug spray--it's picnic time everywhere! And with the help of our "Heavenly Chef" who oversees the whole operation, we will enjoy life to the fullest, find a bountiful supply at HIS table, and then be able to share it with our world. Invite someone to your life's picnic today--and have a great day!
P.S. Save me ONE piece of chocolate cake, OK? Oh, and maybe a hot dog, some potato salad, baked beans, potato salad...who diets at PICNICS!!

"Lord, some days life is NO picnic--those are the days I need you most. Help me, as I travel through life, to take time to receive the bounty You've provided at YOUR table--and then give me love and longsuffering to share it with others. Help me to work hard, watch out for the bugs, and wait for the glorious unfolding of Your bountiful blessings in the "picnic days" of my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen."
