FORGIVE Them?

Down the Path to the Well--a thought to remember along the way

Today is the one-year anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings--and we remember with renewed sadness and grief the horror and tragedy of that awful day. We also remember with deep emotion and pride the Christian response of kids committed to Jesus Christ who were not afraid to stand up for their faith. Today they rejoice in the Lord's presence, martyrs for the Lord they loved.

It's we--family, friends and a whole world left behind--who must deal with emotions that humanly arise in tragedies such as this. FORGIVE the perpetrators of THIS--or even of some "crime" committed against you personally which has nothing to do with Columbine? Why, that's unthinkable in a non-Christian, evil world. You HATE--and you voice that hatred or you carry it in your heart to your grave. You live with it daily; it gnaws at your soul; it diseases your body; it cripples your spirit--UNLESS the Lord of forgiveness touches your life and changes you from the inside out.

For He IS the Lord of forgiveness. Hear His cry on the cross, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." He's waiting to hear YOU say those same words THIS day as you call upon His Name, giving the injustice to Him, granting forgiveness to those who have hurt you. Do it THIS day--and be set free in His Name!

Delight in a Word from the Well--a refreshing in the Water of His Word

"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do...(Luke 23:34)."

Draw from the Well--a prayer for renewing strength for this day

"Lord, on this memorable day, I come face to face with my own unforgiveness. I kneel before Thy Cross and give you all the anguish, hurt, bitterness and pain I've held in my heart for so long. Take it all and grant me forgiveness; give me compassion for the one who's harmed me--and help me, by Your Grace, to forgive completely--as you did me on Calvary's Cross. In Jesus Name, Amen."
