A Tribute to Dr. Kenneth N. Taylor

Originator of "The Living Bible"

"Ken Taylor, Translator of The Living Bible Dies at 88."

ChristianityToday.com reports that Kenneth Taylor was founder of Tyndale House Publishers and the Christian Booksellers Association,
and "was driven by passion for the Bible." The following articles and poem celebrate his Christian life and great contribution to the world of the paraphrased Scriptures. We honor his memory and passion to see the Scriptures available in a way that children--and all peoples--could understand. He has blessed the families of the earth and will never be forgotten!

A Tribute to a Tailor of Scripture

God, bless the memory of a man
whose aim was that we'd understand
the book King James had authorized
that we find hard to read.

Ken didn't use a spool of thread.
His stock in trade was words instead.
He tailored Scripture for our times
with phrases that made sense.

His Living Bible fit our day.
With seamless grace, he found a way
to bring God's timeless truth to bear
upon a changing world.

But publishers would not accept
a paraphrase they thought suspect.
And that is when Ken said, "O.K.
I'll do it on my own."

And so he did and so he thrived
because Ken's Bible seemed alive.
It wasn't stiff and cold at all.
That's how Tyndale was born.

His growing House became a home
where editors would tweak and hone
the manuscripts that writers wrote
that soon turned into books.

Those books gave voice to one who strained
to speak a word or say his name.
In whispered words Ken spoke his mind
to colleagues and to kin.

And now that raspy voice is gone.
But what he birthed will long live on.
The living book Ken left behind
cannot be overlooked.

Well, not quite, but there HAS been a houseful--and STILL room for one more--YOU!
The Christian Counter scans the entire site--and there's plenty of chocolate for everyone--so enjoy!

Please note that while I strongly adhere to major tenets of the evangelical Christian faith, I may not personally agree with every specific doctrinal belief set forth in other Christian pages, nor would all necessarily agree with me. I do want to provide a diversity of links and resource material for the entire Body of Christ to enjoy, and trust you will view it as such.

A safety tip: Internet links and material may include other links and/or material which do not reflect my Christian views or yours. Please choose wisely and use with discretion!
